After Care Information
We at Primitive would like to help you make the right decisions about body
piercing. Please look for these things where ever you may be.
*A studio should be clean and seem well kept with no obvious signs of filth.
*The hygiene of the staff should not be in question, no matter what they
may be wearing.
* Tools should be taken from Autoclave bags, used once, (on you
presumably), and then put into the cleaning process.
*Needles should never be used on more than one person EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* A sharps container should be present.
*Your piercer should be wearing gloves at all times of contact with the area
they are to be working with.
*ALL of your questions are valid and you should feel comfortable to ask
them. If at any time you do not feel like your best interests are being
looked after say so. We want to help you in any way we can.
*Any place you go for piercing should be able to answer your questions to
your satisfaction. If they can not, you should think about it more. There is
always another time you can do it right!
*Know how experienced your piercer is.
We at Primitive are happy to bring you
12 years of experience in our staff.
Thank you for your time.
AFTER CARE CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:
Before cleaning, WASH YOUR HANDS!
During the healing process, matter secreted from
the piercing will dry on the jewelry and around the
openings of the piercing. Use only warm water to
rinse the secretion off of the jewelry and the
piercing. Use clean cotton balls and hot water to soak
it if necessary. Make certain to gently rub any dried
matter away from the piercing, not into it. Next,
gently bathe the piercing with the hot water
sea-salt mix. Slowly move the jewelry a few times,
holding both sides of the jewelry. Rinse the piercing
well, working the jewelry back and forth under
running water, until all traces of salt or soap are
gone. Never use a wash cloth, it is unsanitary (dirty).
Use only clean cotton balls or q-tips. We recommend
this procedure twice a day while showering. Use the
Antibacterial soap when really dirty or afraid of
contact with germs.
New piercings should be cleaned thoroughly,
twice a day, for the recommended healing
period. This is very important!!!!!!!.
A dilution of one quarter to one half tablespoon sea
salt per one cup of hot water should be used.
Use of Dial Antibacterial soap in the shower is fine once
in a while, NOT all the time!.
Soap containing perfumes, deodorants or additives
should never be used. Boiling the sea salt and hot water
mix will make it more sterile than from the tap.

Navel Piercings
Follow the cleaning instructions above.
Neo-Sporin Antiseptic Ointment or Bacitracin can
be applied to the piercing if you are to be in water
or getting very dirty.
This is done with a fresh Q-tip: put a little ointment
on each side of the piercing. Using the clean end of
the cotton swab wipe away any excess.
The ointment isn't necessary, and for some
people, we advise against it. Do not play with
the jewelry, or allow the waist band of your
clothing to rest on the piercing, EVER!!!!
Lip and Cheek Piercings
Follow the rinsing instructions for tongue piercings.
Use Glyoxide drops on the inside of the piercing,
swishing for 60 seconds, twice per day. Rinse with
water. NOTE: Some people are sensitive to Listerine.
If you experience burning or abnormal swelling, cut
down your Listerine usage.
Use the sea-salt hot water solution and a cotton
ball or q-tip to clean the outside of the lip/cheek
piercing, 2 or 3 times per day.
Common Sense:
Never touch any piercing with unwashed hands.
Don't "play" with a new piercing, or move the jewelry
unnecessarily. The lining of the piercing should not be
disturbed during the healing process. Removing the
jewelry (before the healing period is complete) will
damage the delicate lining of your new piercing. This
can cause irritation, inflammation, scars, keloids, and
possibly infections. Avoid clothing that rests on the
piercing.
According to Medical Sources...
THE OVERALL HEALING PROCESS IS ENHANCED
WITH A WELL-BALANCED DIET AND VITAMIN -
MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS. A 50 mg. SUPPLEMENT
OF ZINC TAKEN THREE TIMES A DAY WITH MEALS,
CAN ACCELERATE THE HEALING PROCESS. THE
DOSAGE SHOULD BE REDUCED OR CEASED WHEN
THE HEALING PROCESS IS COMPLETE. ALWAYS
ASK YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING ANY NEW
SUPPLEMENTS OR ACTIVITIES.
ORAL CONTACT/HANDLING:
Oral contact or handling of new piercings can
cause infection and should be avoided. Although
genital piercings do not prohibit sex during the
healing process, you can promote good hygiene
by using a latex barrier during any sexual contact
to minimize the risk of infection.
Tongue Piercings:
First 48 Hours: Rinse with and drink as much ice
water as possible. Eating ice or sucking on it will also
help. Taking an anti-inflammatory (such as Aleve) will
also help to reduce the swelling.
Food: No hot, crunchy or spicy foods. Anything you
eat should be soft, luke warm or cold and mushy.
Please avoid live yeast like yogurt.
Rinsing: You will be rinsing after smoke, eat or drink
anything but water. Rinse with a dilution of Listerine.
1 part Listerine to 3 parts water
The water should be sterile or spring water.
Drops: You will be using "Glyoxide" drops, available
at local pharmacies. Put 2 or 3 drops on top of your
tongue. Swish in your mouth for 60 seconds.
Spit it out, then rinse your mouth with water.
Use this once in the morning, and then once in
the evening.
Follow rinsing procedure and use Glyoxide
drops for 3 to 5 days after piercing.
Barbell Tightness: Check your barbell for tightness
at least once a day. Twist the barbell and make sure the
balls are securely fastened. Do not over tighten, you will
strip the threads on the ball. If you do this over a sink,
be sure to cover the drain, in case the ball drops into
the sink.
Drinking Alcohol: People who drink to the point of
stupidity have been known to "chew" the balls off their
barbells. Vomiting can cause people to lose their jewelry
and can cause infections. It also hurts... lots.
Never chew barbell balls! Especially steel balls!
NEVER USE:
Cold Creams,
Hydrogen Peroxide,
Alcohol
Betadine solution
on gold jewelry
(it will discolor)
Undiluted Tea Tree Oil
Undiluted Listerine
